- The Optimal Sports Ecosystem Index revenue tracker was up slightly at +0.5% T8W y/y vs. -0.8% T16W. Sports Betting & Data spending accelerated to +7.8% T8W y/y (vs. +5.1% T16W), driving the Sports Ecosystem Index positive after weeks of decline. Sports Fandom fell -9.5% T8W y/y on lower transactions (-2.5%) and ticket (-7.2%). Sports Participation declined -5.0% T8W y/y on an -11.0% drop in transactions, partially offset by a +6.8% ticket increase. Experiences & Entertainment spending remains sharply down y/y, though declines have been less severe relative to recent weeks.
- Sports equity indices outperformed the broader market this week. The Equal-Weight Optimal Sports Ecosystem Index (+5.1% w/w) and the Cap-Weighted Optimal Sports Ecosystem Index (+2.7% w/w) both outperformed the S&P 500 (+1.0% w/w) this week. Optimal’s Sports Participation Index (+7.0% w/w) and Sports Fandom Index (+3.4% w/w) also outperformed, while the Sports Betting & Data Index (-0.4% w/w) underperformed the broader market.
- ONON (+): Spending (+6.2% T8W y/y) is both improving y/y and inflecting positively (+3.7% relative to longer-term trend), with digital traffic also up sharply (+51.0% T8W y/y) and inflecting positively (+16.4% relative to longer-term trend). Additionally, ONON’s Twitter Sentiment is up +1.7% m/m and news Sentiment is up +2.2% m/m.
- LUCK (–): Spending is down sharply (-40.6% T8W y/y) and inflecting further negatively (-5.1% relative to longer-term trend). Digital traffic is also weak (-10.4% T8W y/y) and is also inflecting further negatively (-2.0%), and foot traffic remains slightly negative (-1.3% T8W y/y). Twitter sentiment fell -10.9% m/m, though news sentiment was up +1.9% m/m.
- Weekly NKE Analysis: Global digital traffic remains positive but has decelerated from mid-April peaks, while US digital traffic continues to inflect positively and is now flat after nearing -30% y/y in 2025. Optimal’s Online Monitor is accelerating sharply (+3.9%, nearing recent highs), though the In-Store Monitor remains negative but has inflected upwards from recent lows. NKE also has shown improving monthly news sentiment (+11.9% m/m) and Twitter sentiment (+3.9% m/m).
- Sports & Recreation Destination Trend: The Colosseum Sports Resort, a planned $350M multi-sport and recreation complex in Stafford, VA targeting a 2028-2029 opening, joins a movement of premium sports destination openings.
